The Circle Way

An ancient way of gathering together.

The Circle Way is an method for collaborative conversations that calls on long-held principles and practices of circle. As Christina Baldwin describes, circle has come back to take us forward. Circle is a foundational practice that is embedded in other groups dialogue methodologies if people can learn. By practicing circle, it’s easier to take on other facilitation practices into a deeper level.

Why I love Circle as a facilitation practice

  • Circles are shapes where everyone can see and hear each other.
  •  Circle is a group process that supports every voice into collaborative decision making.
  • Circle is an experience of sharing story and biting diverse thinking and encouraging creative problem solving.
  • Circle is adaptable to a variety of groups issues and time frames ; a chance to stop, to sit down and to listen to one another.
  • Circle can be used for deep reflection, checking in and checking out; making decision together.
  • Circle invites meaningful dialogue.

What transforms a meeting into a circle?

The willingness of people to shift from informal socializing or opinionated discussion, into a receptive attitude of thoughtful speaking and deep listening.

Online Circle Facilitation?

Yes, using the principles and practices to hold the circle space online is possible. Despite our faces being spread out across a rectangle screen in rectangular boxes.  For online hosting tips, click here.
